| From USCG Navigation Rules and Regulations Handbook Revision from September 18th, 2020 - 85 FR 58268 INTERNATIONAL, Page 96, Rule 33 (a) A vessel of 12 meters or more in length shall be provided with a whistle, a vessel of 20 meters or more in length shall be provided with a bell in addition to a whistle, and a vessel of 100 meters or more in length shall, in addition, be provided with a gong, the tone and sound of which cannot be confused with that of the bell. T INLAND, Page 97, Rule 33, ยง 83.33 (a) A vessel of 12 meters or more in length shall be provided with a whistle, a vessel of 20 meters or more in length shall be provided with a bell in addition to a whistle, and a vessel of 100 meters or more in length shall, in addition, be provided with a gong, the tone and sound of which cannot be confused with that of the bell. So the way this question is asked it is not really a clear answer as "B" Whistle only would work for INTERNATIONAL, but for INLAND you would need answer D) Whistle and bell only. So it is a question in what waters are you underway with your 15m vessel. Now I see that lately this question in particular is on study guides always answered with "B) Whistle only", which lets me believe that this questions answer is taken from the answer key used by the NMC evaluation personal. So while that answer is technically not really correct if you take the Nav rules text in consideration. So I guess the answer key on this question should be corrected or a comment added that teh NMC rather only expects answer B) based on the answer key to somebody maybe has access. |

| so what about the bell? a vessel anchored in restricted visibility greater or equal to 12m but less than 100m rapid ringing of the bell for 5 seconds. Answer "D" is the correct one. |
