Shakaree, this is more than misleading...there is no mention of restricted visibility as you state. Its assumed that the reason one is using radar that their visibility is restricted. But there are many cases that radar is used where visibility is not restricted. |

This question can be a little tricky because the vessels are 3 miles apart. This may lead you to think that at this point maintaining course and speed is appropriate - however ..... Under the rules for conduct of vessels in retsricted visibility - Rule 19(d) it talks about vessels detected by radar alone. In this rule it says that when a "close-quarters situation is developing...". That leaves the distance open to interpretation - however - it IS the intent of this question. It goes on further to state that a course alteration should be commenced in adequate time and that a turn to port should, if possible, be avoided. |

A) is the correct answer. Rule 34 only applies, "When vessels are in sight of one another" therefore not maneuvering/warning signals. You SHALL NOT sound the danger signal. That leaves A, B or C. Rule 19 (d) prohibits an alteration to port for a vessel forward of the beam so it cannot be B). A is the correct answer. |
