I'm picturing myself standing dead center on the compass rose of a chart looking "due east." If I'm looking East and I see a green light on another vessel in front of me, that vessel is most definitely headed in a Southwardly direction. This question makes no sense. |

In questions that ask about "what direction are you/the other, vessel going" that do not specifically tell you that you are going West, East, Southeast, or some other direction; I have always assumed my vessel to be heading Due North and have always gotten these questions right. |

This is the impossible question it is a guessing game because they don’t give you your relative course this question is designed for most people to get wrong you can call the ““ a trick question “dirty pool by the whoever makes up these questions not fair I’ve been a professional mariner for over 30 years there is no way to tell this vessel was heading 225° without knowing what your heading would be there is only two possible answers it’s a 315° or 225° I chose that I was heading south but obviously this question is based off a northerly heading remember people |

I really struggled with these. DRAW THEM OUT. I cant stress that enough. draw the compass rose and your boat, then the light it states. draw yourself with a beer in your hand on your boat it that helps. |

One of my classmates had a hard time with this question. An important thing to remember is east is not a relative bearing. East is always east regardless of what direction you are traveling. |

WBIRCH, I get these questions wrong every single time. I KNOW which side the red and green side lights are on. I draw arrows indicating each possible answer and still get them wrong. I think your comment might have helped me. Thanks |
