Hey everyone, I’m trying to figure out what really matters more when hiring a tech artist — someone super solid with engines and pipelines, or someone with killer visual instincts and ideas? We had a guy on our team who was amazing with shaders and automating stuff, but his visuals were kinda meh — we always had to polish things up. Now we’re looking for someone new and it’s hard to tell which side to prioritize. |

We went through something similar — hired a guy with a fantastic art style, super juicy visuals, but then we realized he had no clue how to optimize scenes properly. On mobile, it was a total mess. Later we searched more carefully and what really helped was this website where you can find pre-vetted pros. It’s just easier to get someone who’s strong both technically and visually. | |

A friend of mine recently joined a small indie studio, and I’ve been watching how things unfold there. It’s wild how many unexpected challenges come up when your team is small and everyone has to stretch beyond just their core tasks. Especially with roles like tech artists where you’ve got to juggle both logic and looks. |
