Hey everyone,

I’m currently tallying up my sea service for my OUPV (6-pack) Inland/Near Coastal. I’ve got about 40 days logged on a commercial salvage vessel where we were strictly working 12-hour shifts.

According to the NMC guidelines, I know that on vessels of a certain size, a "day" is 8 hours. However, I’ve heard conflicting info that you can claim 1.5 days for a 12-hour shift if the vessel is under a specific Tonnage or if it's a non-watchkeeping role.

Has anyone successfully submitted 12-hour days as 1.5 credit recently, or will the evaluator just round everything down to a single day regardless of the hours? Don't want to submit my 719S and get an incomplete.

Thank s in advance!

Good luck with the OUPV! To answer your question: don't count on getting that 1.5x credit. Generally, the NMC (National Maritime Center) follows 46 CFR 10.107, which defines a day as "at least eight hours of work" for most credentials. While there is a provision where 12-hour shifts can count as 1.5 days, it’s usually restricted to very specific "two-watch" systems on vessels authorized by their Certificate of Inspection (COI) to operate that way. For a standard 6-pack/OUPV application, the evaluators almost always cap you at one day of credit per calendar day, regardless of how many extra hours you pulled. I'd play it safe and log them as single days so you don't trigger a headache-inducing RFMI (Request for More Information). geometry dash meltdown
