Rule 24 requires the towing vessel to exhibit three masthead lights when pulling a tow in excess of 200 meters instead of the lights proscribed in rule 23. The aft masthead is optional for vessels less than 50 meters in length. What requires the one light aft in this questions? |

DEC 2019 and the question and answer are still incorrect. Which light(s) is she required to exhibit? The aft light is "optional" and therefore NOT required. |

NMC is pulling a fast one on this question. What you are missing is this. NOTE that "24 (a) (iv) a towing light in a vertical line above the sternlight" is ALSO considered by the NMC to be a masthead light, but YELLOW and facing AFT. It is a required light AND must be displayed. NO WHERE in the question does it ask WHAT COLOR LIGHT(S) are needed. Answer NMC has is correct. Richard Plant - LAPWARE |
