An example of this would be life support machines. A doctor wouldn't want a patient to die because of power failure so electrical engineers would design circuits, evaluate loads, and hook to an emergency generator for example to maintain constant power. source

EPA equipment enables electronic plotting of at least 10 targets, but without automatic tracking. NOTE – The wording of the Regulation in the case of EPA includes “..or other means to plot electronically the range and bearing of targets to determine collision risk.”
