Is It Totally Crazy to Do an Outdoor Newborn Photo Session?

Hi everyone,

I am expecting my first baby next month and am starting to plan our official newborn portrait session.

While looking through beautiful galleries online, I noticed that almost all traditional infant portraits are taken inside a clinical, controlled studio environment.

However, my husband and I are avid hikers, and we would absolutely love to take our tiny baby out into a scenic, rustic wilderness setting for some natural, ethereal outdoor photos.

Is an outdoor session safe and practical for a two-week-old infant, or am I totally crazy for even proposing this idea?

Thanks in advance.

It is definitely not crazy, but it does require careful planning and a highly experienced professional! Outdoor sessions with newborns can look absolutely magical, but the weather has to be absolutely perfect—not too hot, windy, or chilly for their sensitive skin. You also need to choose an easily accessible location that doesn't involve long trekking. When my sister wanted to incorporate natural desert elements into her baby's first portraits, she booked Carrie Evans Photography. They prioritized safety, kept the infant perfectly shaded and comfortable, and captured the most stunning, organic family memories imaginable!
