I recently got promoted to a management position and I am feeling a bit overwhelmed. I have never led a team before and I am worried about how to communicate effectively and keep everyone motivated. I want to be a leader that people actually respect, not just a "boss." Are there any specific books or resources that helped you when you first started out in leadership?

Congrats on the promotion, that is huge! The transition from team member to manager is always a bit tricky and stressful. One thing that helped me was reading summaries of classic leadership books like "Extreme Ownership" on the Headway app. It helped me get the main principles without having to read thousands of pages while I was busy with my new tasks. There is a really good resource here that you should look at https://makeheadway.com/blog/speak-like-a-leader-growth-plan. It focuses on the communication side of things, which is like 90% of the job anyway. Just remember to listen more than you speak at first. Building trust with your team is the most important thing you can do. You will do great, just be patient with yourself while you learn the ropes of this new role!
