| Nirvana Shatakam is one of the most profound spiritual compositions written by the great philosopher and sage Adi Shankaracharya. Also known as Atma Shatakam, this sacred hymn consists of six powerful verses that describe the essence of self-realization and liberation. The term “Nirvana” signifies the state of absolute freedom, detachment, and bliss, while “Shatakam” refers to a set of six stanzas. Through the Nirvana Shatakam, Adi Shankaracharya beautifully expresses the realization of the ultimate truth — that the self (Atman) is beyond the body, mind, ego, and worldly illusions. Each verse rejects the false identification with physical and mental aspects, declaring instead, “Chidananda Rupa Shivoham Shivoham,” meaning “I am pure consciousness and bliss; I am Shiva, I am divine.” The Nirvana Shatakam serves as a timeless guide for spiritual seekers aiming to transcend material attachments and experience unity with the universal consciousness. It captures the essence of Advaita Vedanta — the philosophy of non-duality — emphasizing that there is no separation between the self and the supreme reality. Reciting or meditating upon the Nirvana Shatakam brings inner peace, clarity, and a deep sense of oneness with existence, making it a cherished text in yogic and spiritual traditions worldwide. | |
